Future investment in Royal Darwin Hospital as population booms

By Nick Syrimi

The growing population in the Northern Territory has spurred on additional government investment into the maternity services at the Royal Darwin Hospital, with Minister for Health Robyn Lambley announcing a $2.5 million boost to cope with the increase in children being born in the area.

Currently, there are more than 2,000 births at the hospital each year, which Ms Lambley said indicated a more than 25 per cent increase over the last four years. With the population expected to continue increasing rapidly over the coming decades, now could be a great time to consider investment in commercial property in Darwin.

The money will be used to recruit more theatre nurses and midwives in order to enhance the delivery suite, along with an outreach midwife, two obstetric specialists and an anaesthetist.

“This will ensure Royal Darwin Hospital maternity services remain at the top of the class for Territory women for years to come,” said Ms Lambley in a 1 September statement.

With population growth across the state expected to necessitate greater funding for public services, now could be a great time to begin your own property investments in the region.
